Turbo Turtle Race Official Rules
OFFICIAL RULES
The University of the Incarnate Word Turtle Race is presented for the benefit of the University of the Incarnate Word Athletic Department. The University is a charitable organization under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Copies of complete Rules & Regulations, a list of prizes, and after the event a list of prize winners list can be obtained from the Presenter by sending a written request and a self addressed stamped envelope to the “Turtle Race” c/o UIW Athletic Department 4301 Broadway, San Antonio, TX. 78209-6318 or by viewing the event website www.uiwspringfling.com.
- Turtles will be launched into the San Antonio River on the University of the Incarnate Word campus on April 12, 2008 at approximately 4:00 pm. The race course and format will be designed by the Presenter and will be approximately 200 yards. If Presenter in his sole discretion determines the race can not be completed due to an act of God, inclement weather or any other circumstance, the Presenter reserves the right to postpone the race, reschedule the race, move the race into the University Natatorium or determine the winners by a random drawing at its sole discretion.
- A maximum of 3000 turtles will be entered into the race. Chances of winning depend on the number of qualified entries. Prizes will be awarded to the person whose name appears on the adoption paper corresponding to the first qualifying turtles to finish and be gathered in the turtle trap. The conducting of the race and the determining of the winners will be conducted by members of the race committee. All decisions and interpretations of rules and regulations will be made by the Presenter and its judgment is final.
- Once the turtles are launched they are on their own. No attempt to free or interfere with any turtles is permitted unless deemed necessary by the Race Committee. The race course will close 60 minutes after the first turtle crosses the finish line or when 20 turtles have crossed the finish line. No turtles will be eligible to win a prize once the course is closed. All turtles entered in the race will be provided by and remain the property of the Presenter.
- A number will be assigned to each turtle representing the number assigned to each entry on the adoption papers. Multiple turtle entries from one adoption paper will be assigned additional turtle numbers for identification. The person’s name entered on the adoption papers corresponding to the first turtles in order of finish will be awarded prizes.
- The first 20 turtles crossing the finish line will be eligible for prizes. A complete list of prizes can be obtained by written request and self addressed stamped envelope from the address in paragraph one or at www.uiwspringfling.com .
- In addition the top 20 turtles will have a chance to win $20,000 to be awarded by Odds on Promotions. One winning number will be selected by Odds on Promotions prior to the start of the race. If one of the top 20 turtles number matches the pre selected number they will win the $20,000 prize.
- The entire portion of each adoption paper must be completely filled out and delivered to the Presenter or one of its authorized representatives and actually received by the Presenter prior to the start of the race for an entry to be eligible for any prizes. No other entries will be eligible for prizes. Entrants assume all risk of non delivery of any entries to the Presenter or an authorized representative of the Presenter.
- By adopting a turtle, participants consent to the promotional use of their name and likeness by the Presenter, Odds on Promotions and or their designees without additional compensation. By entering entrants release the Presenter, its members, employees, sponsors, prize donors and Odds on Promotions for any and all liability with respect to prizes.
- No purchase is necessary to enter or win. Entry tickets in exchange for a $5.00 donation can be obtained from an authorized representative of the Presenter. Free entries defeat the purpose of the charitable fundraiser and are not encouraged. However one free entry per person may be obtained by presenting a written request and a self addressed stamped envelope for returning the adoption paper to “Turtle Race” 6324 NW Loop 410, San Antonio, TX. 78238. Requests for a free entry will not be accepted after 12 noon on Friday April 11, 2007 or after 3000 turtles have been adopted.
- No cash equivalent prizes will be provided in lieu of designated prizes. Any and all taxes or similar fees will be the responsibility of the winner. Presenter reserves the right at its sole option to substitute prizes of comparable value. This event is subject to all federal, state and local laws and is void where prohibited by law.
- Race winners need not be present to win. Winners will be announced. Entrants where necessary will be notified by US Mail at the address on the adoption paper or by telephone. A list of winners will also be posted at www.uiwspringfling.com. If any race winner fails to pick up their prize at the address listed in paragraph one within thirty days following the race, Presenter will select a winner through a random drawing of all entrants. All prizes will be awarded.
